Why We Do What We Do
No widow ever said, “We could have done without that life insurance policy”.
I work in a building with a woman who is my hero. Now you might find that a strange sentence, but it is very true…and it is the reason I got into this business.
I met her casually one day as I was walking to the parking garage. Somehow the conversation focused on kids and she mentioned that she was a single mom. I told her that I thought that must be a tough job to do all by yourself and she replied, “You have no idea”. From that point, the story changed…
Ten years prior, at the ripe old age of 42, her world had imploded. Her husband had died suddenly, leaving her with two young children. She was a widow and her husband had left her zero life insurance!
She managed to get a job and managed to pay her bills. Slowly, she was able to improve her situation by moving to Texas and getting another job. Every day, her life was a punishment for a mistake; the mistake of not buying life insurance. Life insurance wasn’t going to make her husband come back, but it would have made for a completely different set of circumstances. Circumstances that any responsible husband would want for their spouse.
Yes her story is sad, but she has managed to survive. Survive through very hard work and some sleepless nights. Today, she has every right to be proud! She has two great kids who are on the way to being great adults.

About Ken Jilek
Married for 37 years to his wife Sally, he has two daughters, Lauren and Sidney. Passionate about aviation, he is a Commercial Helicopter Pilot as well as certified for airplanes (single and multiengine), instruments, seaplanes, gliders, and drones. While living in Europe, he earned a European Ultralight license. During college, he learned to skydive and made over 100 freefalls, and was frequently asked to fly the jump plane.
He spent 35 years in the investment advisory arena and now wants to help others achieve financial security through life insurance.
